Great security app with lots of featuresI have a Tapo door contact sensor and a camera to help provide some security when I’m away. I love that this app has so many features and automations and doesn’t try to up-charge you at every turn. You can set your cameras to record to an SD card and access the recordings from the app. Cloud storage is optional and not as expensive as competitors if you want it. You can also set home and away modes for all of your Tapo devices so they can behave differently based on which mode you select. For example, your home profile can set all of your cameras to privacy mode if you wanted. You can also control when you get notifications from sensors. I have mine set to notify me whenever triggered but you can just set a specific time range to monitor too. Another cool feature is that your Tapo devices can talk to and trigger each other. If you leave the house in the morning and your door sensor is triggered, you can set it up so that your cameras automatically exit privacy mode and start recording. Decent deal with some catchesI called customer support to specifically get details about how the app functions after the free trial (which is automatically on when starting) operates. The person repeatedly reassured me all features *other than* cloud storage still worked. For me the biggest thing was if the motion detection & notifications still worked. Rep said yes. I would only need to purchase an SD card if I wanted to record. My free trial just ran out, I haven't ordered the cards based on this, and turns out that was all *not true*. What you get without a cloud subscription is a live feed, full stop. You may even need to be on the same wifi network, where otherwise you can get notifications & view from anywhere. So I'm feeling pretty annoyed right now. I thought ahead and did all the work to try to get the right info and now my system isn't serving its function until I scramble to remedy this. I don't even know the solution tbh. I don't want to pay for cloud, I already pay many clouds. But moreso I do not trust these companies with my data. It's a honestly kind of a rip off to advertise these features if they only work st the cost of compromising your data & privacy, but hey I guess thats why they're so cheap! Ain't nothing free! But yeah, be warned. You're either adding one more subscription to the massive pile of subscription everything we are being forced into in this nightmare or the only feature you get is a live feed. Amazing!!!!I bought this camera to watch my kittens while My husband and I are at work. We have two dogs who have never been around such small kittens so we just wanted to keep a watchful eye on the kitty’s. We put them in our empty guest room and use this camera to peek in. One of the kittens does not use the litter box properly every time and one of them doesn’t get a lot of food bc he is pushed out of the way. This camera has allowed us to have such peace of mind when leaving our newly adopted babies. The quality is great and even the night vision is amazing!! I love the amount of features the camera offers and is so nice to be able to move the camera around to see the entire bedroom! Something our others camera do not have! Awesome security camera!I love this camera!! 1) It has the best clarity of any cameras I’ve used before, and this is my fourth brand! 2) Most of the features come free including “AI”, which is a big deal! 3) This camera has 2k or 1080. 4) You can use a microSD card with/without continuous loop feed, or choose a paid subscription. 5) It allows you to choose which things to be alerted of such as people, animals, vehicles, etc. 6) This camera not only has several choices of alarms to choose from, but it also flashes 2 very bright led lights at the culprit! Or, you can disarm the alarm, yet still receive notifications on your cell phone, which easily plays back, right from your cell’s Home Screen. 7) You can connect it to your Alexa or Google. 8) Everything you need for this camera is included in the boxes; I bought 2. They even include several installation options: screws or magnetic. 9) This camera is multi-directional. 10) It has a 2-way mic system. 11) Lastly, this camera is reasonably priced, especially for all of the features it has to offer, and I still haven’t named them all. Almost There With Perfect ProductThe app is smooth, seamless, and easy to use. Combined with quality products like the indoor and outdoor smart plugs, crystal-clear security cameras, and the ability to use many features without requiring a subscription, it creates a strong overall ecosystem. Where the app continues to fall short is secondary user access and permissions. For example, if a second user, such as a spouse, is added to the account, they cannot enable a camera if the admin previously disabled it. The current workaround suggested online is to share the primary admin login, but that creates another issue: two people cannot reliably access the app at the same time under the same account. This becomes especially problematic during security alerts. If one person is already in the app responding to a camera notification, the other may not be able to access the camera feed to help assess the situation. In a real-world security scenario, that limitation matters. Because of this issue alone, we moved most of our primary security cameras to another platform and now only use Tapo cameras for checking in on a second home (with a one-camera Tapo Care subscription). However, we continue to run Tapo smart plugs and switches at both homes because they are among the most reliable smart home products available. Improving multi-user permissions and simultaneous access for shared access/households would make this ecosystem significantly stronger. FrustratingI set up my cameras just before leaving the country and i use the cameras to view my house every once in a while from a different country. For some reason just today i went to check out the cameras and to my surprise it says network unstable. Couldnt figure out what was going on, i uninstalled the app and tried to relogin only to find out that my cameras are nowhere to be found anymore. Now i have cameras just dangling as decorations. Word of advice. If youre like me who tries to keep an eye on their property from a different country, dont uninstall the app cause youre definitely gonna lose those cameras. And theres no way of being able to reconnect to the cameras without having to be in front of the cameras physically. And im not spending thousands of dollars just to reconnect. So yeah was a great app until now. Just went through the reviews and one other person has a similar problem to what i have. If true, the recent update might be the issue and should be fixed. The makings of a great app but has some things to fixI have owned Kasa Smart cameras for years and they are great but, they never offered an outdoor wireless camera. Tapo has one, the C425, and it is a great little camera. I bought some and downloaded the app and added my Kasa Smart cameras. The app has so much more functionality that the Kasa app like, smart functions that will turn on your cameras when you leave and turn them on when you return home, having your cameras inside come on at a certain time and go off at a certain time which is great when you go to bed. My one gripe so far is the video clips that you can save to your phone. They download fine but, if you try to crop them down to pull out some of the background they will no longer play. I never had this problem with the Kasa app downloads. I believe that Tapo encrypts them somehow and that removes the ability to modify. Strange but very unhappy about that. Doesn’t truly bridge gap between KASA and TAPO DevicesI received a message from TP-Link about the new TAPO app ability to manage my KASA devices. The app does recognize the KASA devices in general, but falls short in key areas. It doesn’t allow automation triggers by the KASA devices like the KASA app does. Although it sees the KASA device and gives you manual control, it won’t let you select said device as a trigger. It also has a flaw in that it sees a KASA wireless camera hub at the device level with an indication of the number of connected cameras, when you drill down to the next level it says there are zero connected cameras. The cameras can be viewed at the device list, but the hub detail info says there are none connected. Indoor KASA wifi cameras are not recognized at all and can’t be added to TAPO app. True integration is still lacking, so the ability to leave the KASA app behind for the TAPO app doesn’t exist yet at the vers. 3.5 level..RoadieWingZVersion: 3.2.505

On the way to greatness, but with hiccupsThis app is pretty intuitive and I love how easy it is to set up devices with the onscreen instructions and built-in manuals. There are deficiencies, however, with regards to what you can do with a lot of their devices when writing automations. One example, is that you can't toggle notifications of sensors (motion, contact, etc) so that you're not pestered with them when you're at home. I've had to many create more automations as a workaround, which brings us to the 128 shortcut and/or automation limit. I wouldn't be hitting this limit if they just enrich the list of "actions" in automation. Another issue is scrolling hiccups – probably a result of having too many automations. If you have too many motion sensors going off frequently, you know, because your family is actually living in the building the sensors are installed in, you'll keep getting battery drain warning notifications about that per device! No way of turning it off. I have (custom) wired up a lot of my devices to 3v DC adapters so I'm not expecting power issues. Finally, regarding the company: I accidentally emailed their support team from a long-standing email address that never sends outgoing mail, just receives them. Within a week I'm bombarded with spam emails for the first time. They leaked my email address!!.E-71Version: 3.5.502

Technology moves alongI have a couple of old security cameras that have seen better days, so I decided to try the newest TP-Link one. Much easier to set up than the old ones, and this control app is a definite improvement. Minor issues were that the shortcut was initially confusing (it isn’t an “Apple Shortcut” but is a stand-alone widget), and that using it to set/clear privacy mode only shows a *tiny* dot to indicate success (needs to be bigger and more visible). But these aren’t deal-breakers. The cloud video storage is good value, but you don’t have to use it. A bonus is that the notification of any motion will go to your Apple watch if you have one. Tapo C120 CameraPurchased the camera after reading several reviews. Seemed like a no brainer based on price ,picture quality & custom settings available. Figured it would be pretty much plug and play scenario since I was going to use a Archer1800 TPLink router. Not so- I had to contact Tapo by email explaining the camera could not stay connected to router. They responded same day giving me the settings to try on 2.4 ghz band & it worked perfectly. Super customer service and would have been a 5 star had this been a plug & play setup or information to resolve the issue for camera not to stay connected to the 2.4 ghz band been included with instructions. I plan on purchasing 2 more cameras, the camera pic has excellent quality with plenty of options for usage..LOL139Version: 3.9.102

Hopeful the dev teams see this!I have used multiple other camera manufacturers and so far I find these cams the most stable. My ONE issue with this app… please make a way to save the live view configurations and make them configurable to be loaded when the app is opened. It is far too many clicks to get a simultaneous live view of multiple cameras. All of the competitors’s apps allow for this easily. Simply put… I should be able to open the app and immediately see a live view of 1,2, 4, 8, etc however many cameras at the same time. In order to do this right now, I need to tap the camera page, select a room I configured, select a single camera, change to multiview. Cameras & SamartplugsI have several of their 4k and 2K cameras. A few 360 PTZ and a couple outdoor static. The are great cameras and they serve their purpose. Just don’t rely on them or any wireless cameras for security. Any decent criminal with the slightest bit of tech knowledge can knock your cameras and or entire WiFi network offline with ease. Security cameras need to be wired and if they are online your network needs a failover in case the primary internet connection goes or is taken down. I also own 12 of their smart plugs. I highly recommend the premium version that lets you monitor and track energy usage. They also support the Matter standard along with several big name home assistants..Str8upx 🫥Version: 3.14.105

New Tapo camera systemI previously had Arlo cameras, and recently had problems trying to reconnect the cameras after resetting the modem. So I decided to purchase new cameras that allow recording onto a flash memory card so I can have a record. I set three cameras up a week ago and everything went smoothly. I installed the flash cards yesterday and that too went smoothly. These new cameras are easy to setup and use. The video is very clear, audio quality is good, and the recording onto the memory cards is working perfectly. By far the best security camera per dollar spentAs I say in the title, this Tapo app combined with the TP-Link Tapo C120 Indoor/Outdoor Camera is by far the best security camera I have used. I love how I can turn on/turn off detection of multiple visual or sound events, turn on or off notifications for each of those events , and turn on or turn off the alarm, both a spotlight and sound alarm for the different visual and sound events. However, the events are not 100% accurately detected but so far it’s been 90%+ accurate, which given that detection is 100% free once the camera is bought and requires no subscription at all is hands down the best deal out there! So pleased with that. Checking video for events is intuitive and quick. Configuration of the app and the cameras is easy. A couple of problems though: 1) DO NOT configure your new camera for the first time with a mini SD card, especially unformatted, in the camera as it messes up the configuration process for some reason with a message about have unstable WiFi. Cameras I initially configured without a mini SD card already inserted configured without a hitch. 2) You will be prompted to update the firmware, it takes a while and if you do anything during or after the firmware update process the app gets confused about whether the update has been applied or not and will ask update again but will fall because it all ready updated. 3) It does not allow you to update consecutively a camera that is more than one firmware version behind by pressing the update button. Instead it makes you wait until some future unknown date to update again to a newer version. So ai have 3 cameras that updated from 1.1.11 to 1.1.12 and those cameras claim to have the latest firmware. They do not as I have two more of the same type of camera that updated 1.1.12 to 1.1.13 so 1.1.13 is the actual latest version. First venture into smart plugs and smart locksMy research into which smart plugs/locks would be the best went way down a rabbit hole of confusion. Left me with way more questions than answers, I was officially lost. Until I had this bright idea “which smart plug app had the best rating on the App Store?” TP Link got the Win!! Two people signing in on one accountThis app would be great however I do NOT like how two people can’t be signed into one account and both of them get full access to all features! That is my only complaint! My sister and I share a house and because the cameras came in while I was at work I had her go ahead and set them up well she did and when I got home I just signed into the account she made. It kicked her off and when she would sign in on her phone it would kick me off so she had to share it with me in order for us both to be able to watch the cameras BUT she gets full access to all features and I do NOT. Happy with reasonably priced productsI was initially frustrated with the lack of a customizable ring for the video doorbell and camera notifications, but ended up making a custom notification sound that I can at least hear. I still think this should be improved, but other than that, I am really happy with the Tapo products and would recommend them to anyone looking for affordable security. Wyzecam replacementHave 3 Wyzecam V3’s which work ok but needed another camera to surveil the side of the house where the wifi enters. Need quick notification time in case someone cuts the line. This Tapo Magcam C425 seems to work as well as I could expect. The app found and automatically added the Kasa smart switch receptacle which is really great to minimize apps. As far as the camera goes I don’t think the battery is replaceable so when it no longer takes a charge the whole thing is toast. Hopefully this will be years. 1 week and it’s got great useability and responseI do not normally review apps, but I am using this, obviously, with one of the cameras, and I just got, and have had a security system in the past (LaView) which has/had HORRID APP and functionality and live streaming delay. The Tapo app is GREAT and is the only one so far with a *PRIVACY* mode which instantly disables recording and streaming. BEST THING is internet is NOT required to see your cameras or get playback from the camera SD card. All the cheap Chinese ones make you view your camera them through their server. Better than I expected and easy setupBought at least three other cameras from other vendors and could never get them to work properly on initial setup attempt. Sometimes they would connect but would not stay connected. All three from different vendors and setup was the same on all of them. They were the dome type. To link storage problemI purchased some TP Link smart outlets and overall they’ve worked well. Setup was straightforward, the outlets respond reliably, and remote control functions worked as expected. My only complaint is the app’s storage usage. After installing it, I noticed my phone’s storage was getting low and discovered the TP Link app was using over 1 GB of space. For an app that’s primarily used to control smart outlets, that seems excessive. Because of the storage impact, I ended up uninstalling it. The hardware itself is solid, but I would like to see TP Link optimize the app and reduce its storage requirement. Simple & Reliable – Perfect for My DehumidifierI’ve been using the TP-Link Tapo smart plug with my dehumidifier (which isn’t WiFi enabled), and it’s made a huge difference. The app makes it super easy to turn the dehumidifier on and off remotely, and I use my thermostat to track humidity levels in the house. The setup was quick, and I haven’t had any issues with connection or scheduling. I love being able to set routines and automate based on the time of day, especially when I’m not home. I can’t believe itI have over 15 different inexpensive cameras that I love playing with. I’m 83 years old and very active in virtual reality in a program called big screen. My friends from all over the world see my pictures up on a giant IMAX theater screen and I turned these pictures into 3-D. Amazing to see. I mounted a battery backpack to the tripod and I take the TAPO camera outside in different locations. Even though it’s an inexpensive camera, and the pictures are at a small file size, they still look very good especially when they are in 3-D. You have to see it to believe it. I grew tired of googles horrible camera experience along with wasting money on their expensive products that only worked good in the beginning. I’m so glad I found this company. Good app, slightly irritating UXTapo app has good performance and features. I don’t have and issues with login or lag when connecting to my Tapo camera. It’s also nice that I can link to Kasa and manage all my devices together in Tapo. The full-screen notifications in the app are a bit too much. I am fully aware that I could activate two-factor authentication, but it doesn’t seem necessary for cameras that I’m using in my shed and garage. And having a sale promo pop up when I open the app actually makes me less inclined to buy another Tapo camera. Smart light switch S500I recently installed two light switches. The instructions provided in the manual were more-or-less easy to follow step by step. Definitely make sure to download the App. Even though there’s a bit of a learning curve when using the app at first but it is good. There is a step in your phone that it will tell you there is an insecure internet network… disregard it… and continue as instructed. Make sure each wire is joined together well in each wire connection and if is a 3 way switch it need to be connected to a 3 away wiring. Overview of appOver all the app works well and does a good job. Had some trouble at first getting them to connect. But after working through that issue on my own. It connected and worked like a champ. This is the third camera from the TP family of cameras. The first one is a Kasa and I’ve been using it for three years with no problems. The new pan and tilt camera has a pretty nice camera view. Very clear and crisp. So far I’ve been pretty happy with all my products that have been purchased from TP-Link and KASA. I also have a blink camera which I regret getting, I would love to get another Tapo but due to budgeting I have to wait. Best cameras and smart devices you can buy!Tapo cameras have exceeded my expectations. Unlike other camera systems that turn off every 5 seconds and take forever just to view, Tapo cameras work. They have an easy to use interface where you can even view multiple cameras at once. The price point is also just right. This app is hugeIt’s almost 1GB supporting all the way back to iOS 12, Mac and Vision OS, you guys need to remove the obsolete versions and probably split the app to its own devices. iOS 26 is out you can probably remove anything less than iOS 18 now, how many user do you have that use iOS 12? Mac, Vision OS support adds even more to the size for iPhone users. TP-Link seems to do a good job with the hardware but needs to step up its game in software development. Love this gadgetI just bought this little gem of a gadget. I needed something to spy on my little troublemaker chihuahua and it did not fail me!! The motion detection is awesome, as soon as Manny makes a move “Manny’s Nanny” sends me a motion detection alert on my phone, so I can see what he’s up to!! The range of motion is excellent and the clarity of the picture is top notch for such a small device. It allows you to zoom in for a better look. Awesome cameraWe use it to monitor a family member with the early stages of dementia. We get alerts on our phone for motion detection and can notify them not to leave the house alone or alert a sleeping family member that he’s attempting to get out. The speaker isn’t the greatest but we have alternative in-home communication on our smart devices and apps. Still learning the pan and tilt functions to optimize our viewing angles. Super easy and priced greatWe bought this security camera to watch the inside of our living room where our dogs seem to lounge around during the day and a lot of times they sleep too much. Also, my neighbors complained that my dogs bark all the time. Well, I purposely put that camera against the wall from our the tenant next-door. Good, but needs Apple Watch support, security & usability improvementsI switched from another brand to TP-Link Tapo Matter smart plugs, outlet extenders, light switches, etc and have 70+ IoTs. I use the app to initially install and upgrade the firmware before connecting the device to Apple Home. ➀ Sometimes an IoT shows as perpetually “Not Responding” or upgrading; however, it is still connected and controllable via the Tapo app. I don’t carry my phone around the house, so it needs an Apple Watch app and Complication support for adding to watch faces. ➁ App needs to add biometric option for opening. For ease of use, it remembers WiFi credentials. If the phone is improperly accessed or stolen, WiFi security is compromised. ➂ A usability improvement needed is allowing for ordering IoTs in the app within rooms. Great except……Honestly this app is fantastic…Except one small but annoying complaint. They DONT let you change the sound for “motion detection” on the camera. I use the camera to detect motion at a door for packages, family, intruders, etc. All they let you use is the iPhone “tri tone” which most people use when receiving a text message. This sounds minor except if you’re busy you might miss an important motion detection while the phones in your pocket, thinking it’s just another text message. It’s extremely easy to add things, but the number one thing that deters giving it more than two stars is the fact that there’s no dedicated sound for the Tapo app so whenever there’s an alert, someone breaking into my house or motion detected on a sensitive camera that I want to be alerted for I get a standard notification that could be any of dozens of apps sending me a notification. For me to give this app more than two stars the developer either needs to add the ability to have different alerts for different things within the Tapo app or there needs to be a dedicated sound that comes with this app that plays when there’s an alert or notification. A lot of things I’ve searched online say that it’s not possible because iOS doesn’t allow third-party applications to change notifications, but I have dozens of apps that allow you to set a dedicated notification for that app so that doesn’t make much sense. Terrible DesignThis is a terrible app. Constant nag screens about battery life. These cameras are on solar or AC power so the battery isn’t an issue. Get rid of these warnings. Why these cameras can’t be on constantly like real security cameras is a mystery. Sometimes one camera will run for an hour at other times it stops every few minutes. Ridiculous! Don’t bother with their overpriced Internet service. It actually works better if you just use it natively. I found the battery cameras that use a hub are more reliable than the Wi-Fi direct versions. There also seems to be a conflict with the Mac addresses, so I wasn’t able to use more than one WiFi camera of the same type without network conflicts. The battery hub cameras work the best but you’ll need to buy separate solar panels to keep the batteries charged, otherwise you’ll have to get a ladder take them down and charge them every month. Smart lights aren’t smart at allVery limited themes. Can only seem to be able to edit the two terrible default themes and not creat new ones. Timing and transition options are really limited in themes. More importantly, themes cannot be applied to a group of lights, nor can the lights seem to act in unison with one another. When using to control a group of lights the functionality is even more limited. Can’t apply a theme (such as cycling through the rainbow of colors) to a group of lights at once. Instead, you have to click into each individual bulb and set the theme, and none of the bulbs are in sync with one another. It is a terrible user experience and looks terrible. If you’re looking for cheap smart RGB lights, the Feit RGB lights are pretty much the same and the app can do much more and the lights are way easier to control. Not as compatible as it claimsI have many Tapo devices in my home and recently bought door locks. Everything about them is great except the options available on the app. I can’t set the lock to lock at a certain time each night. Why on earth would I want an automated lock if I have to make sure it locks each night. This is something that could be fixed very easily in the app by adding the option to schedule it like all the other devices have. It also says it’s compatible with Google home but Google can only see my locks. Even though I have Google automations set to lock the doors they will not lock unless I go in the Tapo app and lock them. Attention TP-Link!I am so frustrated with TP-Link for not developing the Kasa app, which I think is more intuitive than the Tapo app, to use Tapo devices which we are forced to use over the limited Kasa selection. In addition to our home, I have installed cameras at my elderly mother's house to keep an eye on her especially since she refuses to use a fall detection device. Yet her cameras, which are shared from another TP-Link account, show up at the top of our account's All Devices List and there is NO WAY TO CONTROL THIS. Goes offline frequently​I like this camera, it was easy to set up, and I like being able to use the privacy mode. HOWEVER...I've had this camera just over a month and it's gone offline unexpectedly several times. I have to reboot my router each time to get it to reconnect (of course I have to be home to do that!), and I usually have to add the camera again as a new device. Our previous camera (different brand) never did that and none of our other devices (Ring doorbell, 2 phones, 2 iPads, 2 laptops, 2 Rokus & TVs) connected to the router go offline like that. Cheap product and cheap functionalityBought cams for home security and monitoring. 50% of the cams went offline after 1-2 weeks from being placed in away mode. This was right after buying them and upgrading them. TP Link support was fairly responsive but issue is unresolved. Cannot download video of any recorded events. I am on the same WiFi network. This is advertised function of the cams and it simply doesn’t work - it’s on all the cams. Yes, I could manually remove the SD card and get the recordings, but why? Privacy mode needs to be enhanced like other vendors are doing. When privacy mode is enabled, the camera lens needs to be pointed all the way down to the floor (preferred) or turn 180 degrees away from where the cam was initially pointing. TP Link used to be a good company with good priced products but it is falling behind on innovation and security (google TP Link security). The acquisition of Tapo was a good move, but functionally flaws are harming the brand. Good pricing of product cannot come at the expense of the advertised functionality. No automation for the new smart lockI wish I knew before buying but the app does not have an automation option to lock the door at a certain time. The only option is to automate auto lock which does not work for me. My kids tend to leave the door unlocked and I’d like an automation to lock it at a certain time, for example at 9 PM every night.
