Layout is unfriendly. I have other subscriptions that follow the table of content and vertical or horizontal, position of ipad does not affect I doubt I will recommend your magazine in this format
Thank you for give us 5 minutes for review your beloved Magazine 🌹
Great magazine, worst app on the internet. Just get it in print form; the headaches otherwise are not worth it
A fun to browse and a delight to read. Learned to enhance the ambiance of my home decor.
I love looking at the different home renovations and decorations.

Great
Fabulous way to look at back issues! Love this APP & the HOUSE BEAUTIFUL Magazine💕
Nice home for my sons and grand baby and friends to call home I miss my family and friends I sure wish I could have Jim he a great guy we meet back in 89 and meet again in 2013.
I really like this app. the pictures are beautiful and the pages are fun to navigate. My only problem is that there is no way to bookmark or tag a room or item you like the same way you would tear a page out of a magazine to add to your idea book for remodeling/redecorating.
Great Issue. Good ideas!
Update! The issue with the download has been fixed. I just finished downloading 3 issues. Thanks for fixing this problem Hearst Communications. Feb 18-Very unhappy! This app crashes every time I try to download an issue. I deleted it and reinstalled 3 times but I still have the same issue. Not impressed- especially since I paid for a years subscription
House Beautiful Magazine US Negative Reviews and Ratings
I have an active magazine subscription but apparently can’t access the app. Because of this I went to the app’s subscription site and bought a year of what I thought was just the digital access. However, when I went to make a new account, the site won’t allow it saying that I am already a subscriber. Go figure. Unfortunately I have no password so can’t get any of the digital magazines and there is no password reset tab. Ridiculous!
I am a subscriber and I receive “pop up” notifications of various design articles. I can’t read those when they come through my regular email account and when I go to my HB app I’m unable find those same articles anywhere! This is really frustrating!!! Not how the company claims a person will have full access through using their subscriptions.
I’ve purchased other magazine apps with no issues. This is difficult to access and doesn’t even have the current issue. If you sign in or subscribe using the website, you cannot access the digital subscription from the app. It says “You are already a subscriber,” then proceeds to block you from content. Super frustrating.
The user interface is a bit clunky, and I can’t get rid of the blue banners at the top and bottom while viewing the content. May be user error.
This magazine is a joke and a scam. It is sold through multiple layers of fly-by-night 3rd parties and is nearly impossible to cancel. They are completely unresponsive scammers. Moreover, you are paying for a bunch of ads. There’s no journalism or real writing of any sort taking place here.
Because that is almost all there is.
Digital access doesn’t work.
Didnt download all. Some pages were in there twice.
I have missed February’s please
While I agree with the other reviewers that paper subscribers should have access, I also understand this is a new technology and will give Hearst the benefit of the doubt (at least for a while). I am actually switching to digital subscriptions for as many mags as possible. I miss the paper magazines, but I don't miss my piles of magazines that clog up my office. The thing that disappoints me most about the app is the fact that they aren't taking full advantage of the digital options available; for instance: links to products and sharing options. BHG mag does a much better job at this. In addition, they should take cues from digital mags like Lonny and try to develop something more interactive.
As a print subscriber, I have been waiting to be able to read HB on my iPad. If I'm traveling, it's nice to have the option to read my magazines online. Many other magazines respect & reward their print subscribers with access through their digital APs at no charge. It's sad that you have chosen not to do that. With many magazine choices out there, this really would have been a chance for you to keep your loyal customers, instead you use this as an opportunity to cause a huge amount of dissatisfaction. I hope you take the feedback to heart, and reverse this enormous mistake you have made. If not, I know you have lost me as a customer, and I'm sure I'm not going to be the only one.
I love design magazines but am sick of the stacks of why did I keep this again? Mess. This app. Is easy to use. Gives me the same detail, glossy feel the magazine did. Buuuuut when I find something I love, I can't "rip" out the page and put it in a file. There doesn't seem to be a way to save ( or send someone ) a great idea. Sure it's great to have the magazine on my I pad but what's the point if I can't remember the amazing orange lamp I wanted to use in my sons room? Or send my sister the perfect picture of a vase I know she's been looking for? I would if it was on paper.
What a waste! Come on House Beautiful..develop this digital edition into something that's worth the cost of the subscription. Look at Canadian House and Home...even Time Magazine digital editions for some inspiration. I am so disappointed. This is simply a digital shot of the magazine. It renders the print too small to even read or to read comfortably...video content that sends the reader to You Tube (really?!?!!). I'm not a print subscriber..but I can't believe you require your print subscribers to pay extra for this junk. For a publication that's supposed to be about artistry, creativity, composition, taste, aesthetics....you should be embarrassed by your digital magazine.
...Not another disappointed "print subscriber" review. I'm new and wanted digital subscription options. Which they offer here. The download is fast. Let's you purchase individual issue or annual digital subscriptions. Interface is smooth. Pictures are great! Content is good. Now for the downsides: The magazine is displaced as a full shot of actual magazine page on one screen. This leaves the print hard to read. Be prepared to pinch larger often. Not optimized for iPad reading. Does not take advantage of scrolling down for overflow of font to make it easier to read. Tons of full-page ads. Ever-other-page is an ad. Sigh. Hoping this great magazine can take this up a few stars. I'm ready to rate it as such should it happen.
It is great to look at the magazine online, however it is missing so much of the functionality of other magazine apps. It would be nice to have a way to access favorites or reference previous issues without having to search through a stack of magazines. At lease with a paper magazine I can rip out a page. House Beautiful is a favorite of mine - a great mag, but it's time to up their game on this app. They are being left behind by other mags.
Agree with the other reviewers that HB should be encouraging early adoption of the digital format by allowing current, and often long time, subscribers to make the switch. I guess I have to let my paper subscription run out and then start anew digitally. HB should be looking at seamless integration with print and online particularly with mobile adoption skyrocketing. Don't lose out by being slow to convert. Look at digital as a way to bring your beautiful content to life as others have done -- Martha Stewart Living, National Geographic for starters.
The magazine is as beautiful as my print version but there does not seem to be any way to highlight or "favorite" a page. I'm trying to eliminate the magazines all over the house but I am used to coming back to all my dog eared pages with my favorites. This app is disappointing for that reason. My Traditional Home subscription for iPad has all the options needed and I really enjoy that digital subscription.
Unlike most other magazines that give you a digital subscription when you already receive a subscription by mail HB will make you purchase content you already receive but in digital format. Ideally I'd prefer to not receive the print version and switch to a digital, however I'm not going to pay the same amount to have the same sub in two different versions. At least offer at a discounted rate for print subscribers.
Really? No option to view the current issue in landscape? Wide photos in the magazine need to be scrolled across the screen in the portrait view, can never see the whole photo, and there is a "scroll to view" label in the middle of the photo at all times. Earlier issues had the landscape option. Why get rid of a good thing? I buy single issues occasionally. This last issue was not money well spent. I think I'm going to delete this app.
I have been a subscriber to HB for a long time. Having recently renewed my subscription and having just received the January 2013 issue I was excited to try out the iPad app the issue repeatedly boasts about. I followed the instructions on page 6 of the magazine and was unable to get any of the images to scan and upload. I was also disappointed to find that HB wants me to pay again for the same exact content I already have in the traditional format. What a waste!
I'm very disappointed with this publication. I'm a print subscriber but I have to pay again for the digital?! Both House Beautiful and Country Living (both from Hearst publishing) have this greedy policy & show no respect for loyal subscribers. Allure, Real Simple, Glamour & Travel & Leisure magazines (among many others) provide free digital copies for their paid print subscribers. House Beautiful should seriously consider this or risk losing loyal print customers. Shameful.
This new publishing platform MAZ is terrible. I cancelled my subscription after 5 years because of it. The pages don't render correctly and worst of all, the advertiser's pages are set up to click through to their web page when you touch any part of the screen to move forward. Once you get redirected, you can't get back to the magazine and have to shut down the app. With 70% of the magazine being ads, it is not worth the frustration.
Both the vertical and horizontal viewing option on the iPhone do not allow the viewer to see an entire photo at once. You have to swipe around to see the rest of the image if it is a larger horizontal image. This doesn't make any sense to me and is seriously frustrating. Even though the image would be smaller I would still like to have an option to see the entire image in one screen.
I can't speak to the usability of the actual app since I haven't gotten to use it. I'm a long-time print subscriber and was excited to hear that HB'd finally created an app - I love reading BHG on their app because it's so interactive with links right to many of the products so I thought this would be great. Not so much - I'm not going to buy the issues on the iPad when I already pay for the magazines...I think this was a poor choice by HB.
I paid for a years subscription and I have nothing. Got nov/ dec, jan/ feb and archived them to make room for other things which they suggested. They said I could download them again by selecting the download button. The magazines just say purchased, no download button and then pending. Just buy the magazine at the grocery store. This is ridiculous. Robbery!
The new platform and update is horrible. They got rid of all my saved pages (I was warned but I had 4 years of magazines!). Thanks Hearst. Most importantly, Photos cannot be zoomed in, the cut and paste shows up randomly as opposed to the photo I want. It's easier to just go the website and pin it from there. I really enjoy HB, but way to lose a longtime customer! I'm dropping my subscription.
This thing is terrible. The last app upgrade I show for this ap was just last month, July 2017. I've been trying for four days to download my Sep. issue but the app says I need to upgrade in order to download but there is no upgrade! So I'm stuck going in circles. I love the magazine but every month it seems I'd get it sooner if I just purchased it from a rack. Makes no sense!
Nice recent update of adding the download option, but it still falls short. I love this magazine but already subscribe to it, just not through the iStore. I would like to be able to just download the copies using my current subscription to enjoy it on my iPad. Close, but no cigar. This only gets 2 stars.
The app just stopped working about five days ago. I can't download anything, the app just crashes constantly even after reinstalling it several times. Waiting for a response from App support. Is anyone else having this problem? The previous two issues were fine, so I don't know what happened.
I love my new iPad and one of the greatest thing about it the ability to take MY magazines along with me to appointments, while traveling and any time I can grab a few minutes. I have loaded all my subscriptions ... Except one! House Beautiful is the only magazine I subscribe to that does not offer free online access to print subscribers. I will not be renewing my subscription.
The other magazines come with free iPad subscription with your paid subscription to the print version. This app only downloads the icon but not the actual magazine. You need to pay in addition to your paid print subscription :( Needless to say I am deleting the app right now and will cancel my HB subscription until this policy changes.
I agree that it's disappointing that HB does not offer free access to the tablet version to print subscribers. Plenty of other magazines like Real Simple, Instyle, and Self do. It definitely makes me feel like House Beautiful doesn't care about giving me a little something extra/convenient for being a loyal subscriber all these years.
Ever since downloading it and opening it, it crashed so many times that I have had to delete the App, re-downloaded, and re-opened, but to no avail. It kept on crashing. I have re-deleted, re-downlaoded, and re-opened, and it kept RE-CRASHING. What else should I do? I wish there is a "zero" star to indicate how useless this version of the App is.
Almost every other digital magazine allows you access for free if you already have a paper/hard-copy subscription - BUT NOT HOUSE BEAUTIFUL!!! I normally love this magazine, I have a 2-year paper subscription, so I am astounded that HB would ask loyal customers to pay again to get the same content on the iPad. ***FIX PLEASE!!!!!!***
I downloaded this app just so I could give it a review. Every other physical magazine that I subscribe gives their subscribers gratis access to the iPad version. I'm disappointed that HB doesn't have the same common courtesy. Will be deleting this app- and may even rethink my subscription to the magazine.
Really, I have to pay $5 for a magazine I already own?! Every other magazine app let's current subscribers view magazines for free except for this one. So disappointing & makes me want to not renew my current subscription! If I could give negative stars I would!
As others have said, I can't believe that as a current paper subscriber I have to pay to view them in the app!!! Almost makes me want to cancel the paper subscription, am seriously thinking about it. How greedy can they get???
I have subscribed for 20 plus years & will not renew my subscription with House Beautiful. Just got my iPad, love reading Martha Stewart, Vanity Fair, Better Homes .& Gardens, Glamour , Coastal Living who all include online access to the IPad. Enough is enough House Beautiful. You just lost a lifetime subscriber.
I love the magazine and really wanted to love this app...unfortunately it simply does NOT work. Recurring problems logging in....won't recognize my password or any 'recovery' passwords generated sent to my email. Have deleted, re-installed, updated, etc... Wish they could get it right! Please fix this issue!
I recently subscribed to HouseBeautiful's print version and I'm very disappointed to find out that my paid print subscription does not carry through to the online version. This is a big issue for me and I probably will not renew my HouseBeautiful subscription because of this.
Along with previous review, the latest issue of House Beautiful will not download to my iPad. When will this be resolved? I have contacted geniuses from apple about the problem, however it has not been resolved with their help as of yet.
July 3, 14 Havent been able to download at least 6 months of thedigital versions....i am paying for it on a monthly auto renew. ITunes support very helpful. Thank goodness. I am cancelling this subscription even though I am loathe to do it because I love the magazine. Management of opns should feel the wrath of the excellent editors cause they arecausing loss of fans like me. Grrrrr..
This app does not work properly. The download keeps freezing and after several tries throughout the day it still has not loaded. How do I get my money back for the annual subscription? I don 't need to go through this for each month's publication!
There is a problem with this app. House Beautiful please fix. I have been charged for two magazines and can only download one.
I cannot get this to work at all. Sometimes I can get to the download stage before it crashes. Other times I just crashes right away. Waste of $20 subscription.
