This has been super helpful for me to track and see my dad’s glucose levels at and given time. He’s older and deaf so he doesn’t always know when the low alert goes off. Unfortunately, I have a job that requires me to be present and have my phone in quiet mode for a lot of of meetings and throughout the day. I’ve also historically turned off notifications at night to make sure I get good rest. I know on some apps I can set it so that critical update updates. For instance, his sugar going below 50 or 70 at night I would get a ring out loud, even though my phone was set on vibrate or do not disturb was on. I cannot find that setting on this app though will it possibly be introduced? In looking online it looks like the regular Dexcom app already has that.
I am grateful to have this app that allows me to help monitor my loved one’s glucose remotely. For the most part the app works well however I do wish I could see the past glucose readings that fell below the alert notification setting. For example, if the alert notification was set for 70 mg/dL and glucose fell below that, the app will not show what the number was. It will only state “below 70” which is not helpful when tracking and measuring BG for future corrections. The old app would tell you but not the updated app. It seems like such a simple thing to fix and hopefully someone reads these suggestions. Otherwise, the app has been a such a helpful tool for us. Thank you.
I became aware of the follow app at least six months ago and was very happy with how it worked both on my phone and on my Apple Watch. It still works fine on my iPhone. Soon after the Follow App changed to Dexcom Follow it became much slower on my Apple Watch. About a month ago, the app stopped working on my Apple Watch. When I tap it, it comes up and spins a short time and the full screen of apps comes up again. I have called the help number 3 times and did all they suggested but nothing has made it work. I’m wondering if anybody else has had this problem and if there is a way to fix it.
The Dexcom Follow app works well overall, but it’s missing a few essentials. First, it should show how many days are left on the current sensor. Second, there needs to be a widget that displays the current glucose reading without opening the app. On the Apple Watch, the app currently shows no data at all—tapping the icon just spins and kicks me back to the watch face. A functional complication that displays the current reading directly on the watch face would solve this. If these features are added, I’ll update my review to five stars.
Overall I like the functionality of the app. It’s clean, minimal, and easy to use. I specifically like that the enhanced version allows you to see the values of individual readings on the chart now. One additional enhancement I would like to see for helping out as a caregiver especially from far away is a reading of how many days are left in the sensor so I can make sure my family member is changing them when they are supposed to

Dexcom Follow Negative Reviews and Ratings
I have been using Dexcom follow since launch and it’s become increasingly frustrating that there hasn’t been any development in the Apple Watch complications, including CGM readings viewable on the complications. Previous version of the app allowed at least a quick launch complication to be present for one push access to the Follow app, but in the enhanced version of the app, there is no such option. We will continue to primarily use third party solutions (Nightguard, etc.), and hope that Dexcom sees a space for an added feature that’s long overdue! The app overall seems much more stable on iOS, launches quickly, and has helpful notifications guidance to ensure alerts go through. But, for a software platform centered on the monitoring of others, it could use more functionality with better Watch OS performance and features.
We’ll see…I don’t understand how they are keeping his privacy why they are having users sign in with the teens contact info rather than their own. (Do they reset when they become an adult? It should be easier to select users you want to follow you and drop off users you don’t want following you.). Also logging in to their account gives you the same screen as them but it’s not telling you how long since it has updated. The previous app shows you how many minutes since the last update which helped us figure out when it was glitching and not giving accurate data. It also helps you see how many more minutes until a refresh. They happen ever 5 min and if it went past that you could see the trouble. Now you can’t tell. Seems a backwards step but with a few changes it could be really helpful. Another concern is that the new sign in process is possibly going to have problems that if I select sounds and notifications my worry is it will change them for my husband or son as well which is a problem in so many ways. What if someone silences alerts and it silences the other user? What if my choice of sounds hep me recognize highs vs lows vs urgent lows? If I change to my sounds won’t it change my dons as well since they signed me in ahis rather than mine?
I guarantee they are using a firm that used “AI” to blindly revamp this app because for a machine it is considered functioning for a caring human it does not give the options and details for convenience comfort and peace of mind that is needed. The Dec 2025 update offers Zero fixes for widgets or watch. I am convinced Dexcom no longer uses human developers and now relies on slop “AI” to just make an app work but not actually function as a person would need it to, then uses the same AI to spit out cookie cutter responses to consumer issues. Insult to injury it also logs you out without you knowing since you can’t have a widget open to monitor. UPDATE!!! latest version released still doesn’t have a widget keeping it absolutely worthless! Upgrade to the new app if you want a different icon and less features. Widget is gone making it worthless to use to monitor from your home screen. iOS 26 just started letting you use the Follow widget on CarPlay this new 2025 revision will remove all the widget covenances, Also NO Watch support, it’s not there 0 point 0 ability to use on your Apple Watch, this sets the app back 4 years of not 5. No CarPlay feature No Watch app but hey you get a new icon. btw it tells you when you delete the original follow app it’s done, gone, and will be removed from App Store so no going back.
My wife has T1D and I’ve been following her blood sugars through the dexcom follow app for years. The moment the old app was replaced with the new version, several atrocious changes were made. Probably the most egregious change was the removal of Home Screen widgets. There fact that users have to open the app in order to view blood sugars has totally ruined my ability to help my wife maintain her blood sugar. On top of this, the inability to have notifications stop repeating unless blood sugars get back in range is also absolutely infuriating for both me and my wife. These alerts should be used to notify users if a blood sugar is out of range and once that high or low has been addressed or treated, the repeating notifications should be able to be disabled. I wouldn’t even be upset if I had to actually open the app in order to stop the notifications, but even that doesn’t work in this current version. Overall, this new app makes assisting a diabetic loved one much more painstaking than it was for years using the old app. Diabetes is already so difficult to manage, I cannot understand any justification behind some of the changes made. Do better Dexcom. Money cannot be the excuse either with how much G7s cost even with health insurance. No excuse.
There are several problems that make this app nearly unusable compared to the previous iteration. 1) there is no longer a widget available meaning the whole app must be opened in order to get current BG values. 2) if the app is opened from a notification, it no longer pauses continued notifications for any amount of time. This means I continue to get notifications every 5 minutes until the situation is resolved. This is particularly dangerous for me because notifications on the watch also do not auto dismiss if the watch is active, which it frequently is while I’m using it to take vitals on my patients. This means I have to take hands off of my patient to dismiss the notification that shouldn’t have come up in the first place because I’ve already opened the app and it should have acknowledged that I did so and paused further notifications. 3) the watch widget only offers trend lengths of 1, 3, and 6 hours. In addition, it would be great if we could have a record of how long the sensor has left so we can help prompt the person whose BG we are following to change it quickly to avoid long gaps in data.
As a family where both my son and I are living with Type 1 diabetes, the removal of the iOS Home Screen Widget is a significant setback for our daily management. For a T1D parent who is also managing their own condition, the ability to see readings at a glance is not just a convenience—it is a critical safety tool. Managing two T1D profiles requires constant monitoring. The original Follow app’s widget allowed me to check my son’s levels alongside my own without the friction of unlocking my phone, navigating to the app, and waiting for it to refresh. This "at-a-glance" visibility is essential for catching highs and lows early, especially during busy school days or throughout the night. While I understand the app has been updated for better performance, the omission of the widget functionality on iOS directly impacts our ability to manage our health safely and efficiently. Are there immediate plans to restore the iOS widget for the Follow app? I strongly urge your team to prioritize this feature for families managing multiple T1D diagnoses who rely on Dexcom for peace of mind. Thank you for your commitment to the T1D community.
Ever since the app was updated to this new version it’s been the worst experience. The removal of an essential and frequently used feature is unacceptable. The only way I had for quickly glancing both my blood sugar level and my daughters was using the widgets. It was my primary method for seeing both of our levels. Now instead of a quick glance I have to go through a multi-step process to view her current glucose level! Not that this feature ever existed, but there needs to be an Apple Watch complication for viewing the current number of someone you’re following (a feature that only kind of works currently in the Dexcom G7 app). Lastly, the alert notifications are completely broken. Previously when I would get an alert notification opening the app would acknowledge the alert so it would stop beeping. Now that rarely works the first time. I’ll get an alert, open the app, and then 5 minutes later the same alert is going off again. I’ve resorted to just leaving the app open after getting an alert. That seems to eventually stop it from going off, but it’s unacceptable that this problem is even happening! Both my wife and I are having the same issue. I’ve verified iOS and the Dexcom Follow app are updated to the latest versions. I’ve tried reinstalling that app as well and the issue still occurs. For an app I depend on for managing my daughter’s diabetes it’s unacceptable for there to be so many problems!
** EDIT from my earlier review I have it 3 stars, today I have to drop it to 1. All of a sudden as a following parent now when my daughter is under 70 it no longer displays the value of the review line it only displays anything under 70 as “under 70” as a parent this is frustrating… I want to review the lows especially if I’m just seeing it and now when I drag over the timeline feature I cannot see the rate of change because it won’t give me the value. I’m becoming more disappointed as they take away features that are helpful. 3 stars down to 1. First and foremost: the widget option must come back…. Losing this feature is a giant step down. But it stopped working on the old app anyway. I also wasn’t getting alerts anymore on my old follow app that is why I changed over. The Home Screen widget is a must have back-- as a parent this was key when I am busy/working/ or generally trying to not be rude in social situations. That feature was everything. It made checking much more discrete and less invasive. And let’s face it diabetes is part of every moment of the day — Iets get there in less steps. Okay- so porting in the people you followed on the original follow app is a little confusing but I do believe they tried to explain. I just felt like it was a pain. I follow my daughter and her friend. Otherwise the layout does not feel that impacting from old to new it is all reasonable. Bring the widget back you can have 5 stars
Our son (age 9) was just diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, and his Doctor prescribed the Dexcom G7 for his CGM. Unfortunately, the Dexcom G7 app, paired with this Dexcom follow app, is not designed for parents that are trying to monitor their child’s T1D. We have to have a dedicated phone for him where the main G7 app runs, and we are relegated to limited feature follow app for our use. This should be the other way around. As a child, he should have very limited functionality on his app, and as his parents we should have a more feature full all that allows us to control the alerting thresholds etc. Also, the main G7 app supports the IOS “critical alerts” capability (so high and low alerts come through regardless of Focus or Silent settings), but the Dexcom follow app does not. This is a huge safety issue. As his parents, we are responsible for monitoring and responding to his high or low alerts, so we should always be able to get those 24/7x365 regardless of the phone’s settings. This could be so much better Dexcom.
Just like many of the other reviews have already stated, this app is TERRIBLE. The frustration it takes to log in create an account and follow my child’s Dexcom readings is ridiculous! What a frustration. Why the need to all this account information nonsense? I am merely trying to follow my child’s Dexcom readings. That said, once we were able to log in to the new “enhanced” app we found it is somehow worse! No widget available! Also why is the number so small? The whole point is to see what the number is and follow the trends. Bing back the big bold number and make it prominently displayed for convenience especially when, as parents, we glance at this number during the night! Also the graph was better on the old follow app as well. What enhancements have been made? This is by far a worse app than the previous one. Very frustrating for parents and family members! Do the app developers listen to the feedback at all? Please fix this!
I downloaded this app a month or so ago and, as almost all the reviews have stated, it was inferior in every way to the legacy follow app (that had its own issues and frustrations). I deleted it and continued using the legacy app until today when a notification popped up saying I needed to switch to the “enhanced” app. I was hoping a new version had come out that addressed people’s issues but there have been no changes. It still has the same issues with confusing notification setup. The highlight advertisement when you download it is that you can now track on Apple Watch…. Something you could do with the legacy app (although it was buggy and never fixed). And, as others have stated, the lack of a widget is unacceptable. We’re trying to keep our kids/loved ones safe. Please come out with an update soon, especially if you’re going to force this “enhanced” app on everyone.
This app is garbage. The server goes out every few days, oftentimes for hours on end, thus triggering emergency alerts…or even worse, NOT triggering emergency alerts. It’s almost always a server issue. So either Dexcom doesn’t know how to properly configure and maintain servers, are using a toilet tier third party cloud server, or are actively under attack by hackers and are not forthcoming with information about the threat (medical information is the most sought after target by cybercriminals). Any of these possibilities are worrisome. We are considering asking for a different company’s device because of this. For example, I haven’t received any updates on glucose level since about 5:30 PM (17:30). It’s now 1:33 AM (01:33) the next day. This has forced me to alter my plans and remain onsite most of the day and all night, thus completely canceling out all of the advertised advantages of this glucose monitoring system. Buyer beware!
It’s not really an update. It’s more of a step backwards, right? It doesn’t have the widget the older Follow app has. It doesn’t allow you to delay notifications like the older app. It’s more of a monochromatic graph the other one had colors that allowed you to get information instantly with a quick glance rather than having to look at it and actually read it. Anyway, I downloaded it, checked it out and deleted it for the third time. I’m not updating to the new app until it’s at least as up to date as the old app.
I use this app to monitor my partner’s blood sugar, and with the old app, I would be awoken in the middle of night to her urgent lows so that I could wake her up, but with this new “improved version” it does not even sound notifications for me even though all permissions are allowed and notifications are set up. There is no widget available meaning it takes longer to check her sugar when I used to be able to look and analyze in less than a second. I have never left an app review before, but sometimes this is a case of life or death, and there are so many of us who use this app to monitor a condition that could kill when the app does not update with correct numbers quick enough. Though the app has an updated appearance, all functions have regressed. I was so excited to see that follow finally had gotten an update, but I am disappointed to see that it has not.
What a horrible downgrade. The old app was so much better. This app is horrible. The numbers are so tiny. With the old app, the number was within a circle that showed you green red or yellow so it was very easy to tell. Even if you didn’t have glasses on in the middle of the night it was be super easy to know if there was a problem or not. Now the numbers are super tiny. The graph is horrible too. It was a nightmare trying to connect this new app to my husband’s Dexcom. It shows that you can choose the sound that you want for the Notification. I choose the sound I click save, but it doesn’t save it. Now all my phone does is vibrate until he gets into the urgent low area and then it makes a long obnoxious sound. Please fix these issues. This is a medical app not a game. This is life and death for some people. Please fix this or or allow us to use the old app.
First, thank you for this app. Being able to watch my daughter remotely allows me to sleep through the night. Now for the issues with this new app release. I depend on this app to watch over my daughter. Since the most recent update, the Apple Watch app will not open and just crashes. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled many times, even (coincidentally) upgraded my phone and it’s still not working. Apple Watch Ultra 2, but looking at the reviews it seems that many others are having the same problems. 2nd, your phone compatibility on your website shows that iOS 26.1 is supported and yet every time I have reinstalled this app, trying to fix the above issue, it says my OS isn’t compatible. 3rd, with this most recent update, why can’t I see the specific numbers when bg is high and instead it just says “high”? This is a large step backward when I’m trying to make correction decisions. Finally, the old version updated bg numbers over a minute faster on refreshes. Why does this new/improved version take so much longer to update than the old app?
It’s a total mess. In the original app my husband was following his brother. His brother was following him. I was following my husband. We’ve lost all of that. I don’t know how to get it all back. Update: I tried again. I had him send me a follow request. I re-downloaded the new app. I created a user name and password. When I tried to follow him, I was stopped by the fact that I was already following him on the old app. So I had to go to the old app and delete my old profile. - stupid. I deleted the old profile and recreated it in the new app. I went through the whole process to recreate my profile in the new app. I got to the final step where I acknowledged reading the terms and conditions and the privacy policy. I clicked submit - and got a server issue - no dice. Do you people EVER test your software???? This SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING!!!!
Immediately disappointed that i dont have easy access to watch throughout the day anymore, my brother drops so fast and the app doesnt give notifications until he goes below a certain number. he could go from 100 to 75 to 50 in the matter of minutes and being able to passively track his trends throughout the days—WITHOUT having to open the app every few hours—help us correct them before they get out of hand. he has tonic-clonic/grand mal seizures when he drops too low, so this is a serious problem for our household and a COMPLETE oversight in how vital constant accessible tracking is. the rest of the app is fine i guess, but this is such a severe issue and a total downgrade from the last app just for this reason alone.
Reviews are around 1 star for this app despite each sensor costing over $300. Maybe just maybe build something your user base of followers, diabetics, parents, caregivers can actually use in a way that makes sense. There is no granularity of control, no info for followers except the immediate, no options for alternate alert protocols like email or text alerts. There are free apps out there better than this for stuff that doesn’t matter at all. This is essentially a life safety device with a multi million dollar industry and the app (the main interface for the device) looks and functions like you spent just enough that the government won’t prosecute you. It’s terrible. What I’d expect from a comp sci freshman coding a their first app by themselves.
This is more of a request to the developers than anything. Since there isn’t a clear way to communicate these sort of things hopefully this works. For iPhone, the developer can request Critical Alerts entitlements from Apple, allowing users to enable critical alerts if they choose. Critical alerts allows an app to make a sound even when on silent. Apple health has this option as well for medication notifications. This option for the follow app would be beneficial when I want to silence everything else but want these notifications specifically to sound no matter what.
I usually don’t write reviews, but I’m hoping this helps DEXCOM understand what users need and want from this app. The old interface was much better because the blood sugar numbers were much larger and easier to see. The only feature I like about the new app is that when you switch to landscape view, you can still see the blood sugar reading in the upper right-hand corner. However, overall, this app isn’t very user-friendly, and the blood sugar number is too small. I don’t want to have to scan all around the screen just to find my numbers right away. Please consider changing this, or at least continue supporting the old version with updates. Thank you!
There is no way the devs or product managers responsible for delivering this app really understand what’s important for tracking BG for others. Wouldn’t surprise me if this was subbed out to Fivr. This latest version is a step back from the previous version. Only 3 hour resolution when used to have 1. In the chart view if the data point is above or below the thresholds it won’t show the value of the reading, only that it is above/below the threshold. None of the links for support pages work in the app. It is hard to image that anyone who understands what managing a diabetic is like had anything to do with the development of this app. Do better. A lot better!
As a caregiver for my 81-year-old father, I rely heavily on this app throughout the day and night. However, I’ve recently encountered a significant issue with the Apple Watch app. It crashes as soon as I open it, which is quite inconvenient. I often go for early morning runs with just my Apple Watch, and I need the peace of mind that I can monitor his vital signs while he sleeps. Additionally, I would greatly appreciate it if you could add a feature that allows me to see when the sensor needs to be changed, along with the time in the grace period. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Apples most recent update has forced me to install the new Dexcom Follow App and made me create a brand new account. This update will NOT alert me when my phone is in Do Not Disturb mode when my child who has Type 1 Diabetes blood sugar goes too low or too high. Also WHY are you forcing 15 minute delays on alarms to sound??? 15 minutes can mean DKA OR COMA! This update is screwing with my child’s life! Her app also updated and will not stay open with parental controls on her phone. It keeps closing on its own and then we get No Data warnings because it’s no longer communicating. APPLE FIX THIS ISSUE IMMEDIATELY!!! We didn’t have this problem with the last versions of these apps! Your update is going to kill people!
This is the most garbage app I’ve ever used. I’ve tried sending an invite from my wife’s app 10 times, I’ve tried searching for my email used from her app and it says there’s no invitation sent. No email shows up in my inbox. And the one time I got an email to pop-up I clicked on the link and the app kept crashing. Just an absolute garbage of an app. Don’t know who they have doing their app programming, but they need to be fired. Crazy how an industry with so much money can’t get a simple app to work. Especially when it’s a life-threatening disease. Read all the horrible reviews and fix your freaking app. Should take a total of one day to fix.
The Apple Watch app is broken. It never opens. It leads just gives a black screen and force closes. This is on apply watch series 2, nearly brand new. As far as the phone app, it’s way more complicated than the old phone app. Supposedly it is supposed to detect the people you monitored on your old app using email, but that doesn’t work. It just fails to add. I had to completely delete myself out of my wife’s share, and use the link it sent me when I reseed myself multiple times before it finally added. Luckily I finally got it working, but it’s much more effort than it should be. And definitely not an app I recommend for the less technically savvy.
I don’t know why Dexcom decided to end support for the FUNCTIONAL version for US only and to force the international version on all. There is no widget anymore. Thanks. The Apple Watch app has NO COMPLICATION. That’s actually irrelevant though because the app crashed on the watch constantly. But hey, you can track up to 23 people if you know that may diabetics and the phone app will auto change between dark and light mode (not the icon though). (Insert good job meme of Obi-Wan here). Dexcom, if you aren’t going to fix it, just bring back the other app. With lack of quality app QA, you are going to lose customers to Freestyle Libre because what’s the point if I cannot track and support my loved one.
I don’t know why they would release a new app to replace when the work is fine but the new app has so many problems namely there’s no widget for your phone so you can’t do it that way and if you have an Apple Watch there’s no longer a widget 4 it or complication or whatever the watch call it the app horrible don’t do it. We didn’t update my wife’s phone. She still using the old follow app. It works great for some reason. I trusted a medical supplier to not have a piece of junk that I used to monitor my child with which now I can’t do so hopefully nothing bad happens, but you’re no longer able to monitor your child’s blood sugar.
I understand updating the app, but the fact of not having the graph color coded like the old app is hard for me to quickly tell when my daughter is high or low. The constant notifications drive me nuts even after getting into the app. I don’t like not being able to look back at the last 24 hours and not seeing what level she was actually at. I would much rather been able to continue with the old app over the new because of the little things that I have mentioned.
Multiple times I’ve had the Dexcom follow app stop following my wife, so I get surprised when she’s super low and I never got a notification. Most recent time the app updated without my knowledge, it made me go create a new user id and log in and then import contacts before it would let me follow her again. Seems like if it’s going to stop following someone you care about, you should get some kind of warning that action is required on your part to keep getting notified if your loved one goes low. Someone could literally die because of this bug. Please fix it!!!
PLEASE HELP ASAP! My 10yo son is still getting the high/low/urgent low alerts to his phone, but both his dad and I have lost all alerts coming to our phones…. Until he’s at 50! We have our notifications set to high 300, low 70, urgent low 55, same as they’ve been since using the cgm, nothing has changed. These alerts have stopped on our phones. It completely skips these important alerts, and finally alerts at 50. What the heck??Please update this app to match Apple’s latest mumbo-jumbo! That’s the only thing we can think of. Unfollowing, uninstalling, reinstalling, reinviting… all the tech support advice…. Nothing has fixed the issue.
I have stopped receiving high and low glucose sound notifications from my phone. The notifications will show on my Home Screen, but my phone won’t make the sound to alert me. I have missed several high or low notifications at night because of the issue. The problem is not with my phone because I receive other notification sounds from other apps and I can go to the notifications screen in the Dexcom app to choose a sound and hear it. Please help me fix this problem.
Had to move to this new app due to getting a new phone and it is not user friendly. It isn’t easy to log in, it has a poor design as the number used to be much bigger which was easier to spot right away and the time since the last reading was right under that big number, now it is under the graph in small letter. To make it even worse there is no more widget to have that number accessible on the main screen, you have to open the app to see the number. Please bring back the previous look but most of all bring back the widget!
I agree that the widget should come in ASAP, it’s very convenient to be able to see my wife’s sugars right at the Home Screen. It would also be beneficial to get the actual numbers for sugars whenever it notifies us for sugar alerts. An example would be “Low glucose notification from…” or “High glucose notification from…” it would be nice to have the actual number at what it is next to the high or the low. I believe it does it on the Dexcom app itself but not for the follow app.
I don’t understand why this has been labeled the enhanced version. There is no longer a widget which is the easiest way to monitor my child’s numbers. Also, the number in the app is now smaller font compared to the previous version. If all that isn’t bad enough, you now have to register to follow someone. Our child is watched by four different grandparents. Do you understand how difficult it is going to be for us to help our septuagenarian parents set this up so we can have a break? Make things easier not harder. Bring back the old features.
The previous version of Follow worked great with timely alerts, consistent data, a widget for my watch and my phone. This version gives me nothing. We often get “no data” and interrupt his day to get information we need to make necessary decisions. This version doesn’t give us what we need to be on top of his management like before. It’s added additional steps. I hope this gets fixed soon. Updated - we did figure out that the “no data” we see is because he needs to calibrate his sensor. We still get missed alerts and there isn’t a widget for the phone.
Not a fan of the updated app. Loved the feature in the prior version where you could see the 24 hour graph and drag to see the blood sugar number at a certain point in time. Now it only shows that when the person you follow is under the target range. Don’t like the smaller number on the main page, I preferred the larger font. And this version will not pair with Apple Watch to mirror data which is not convenient when at work and you are watching a low or a high blood sugar.
I’m guessing there are enhancements on the development side, but the user experience is a huge step back. Like another reviewer, I am also running this and the previous app at the same time because the other app has a widget. I cannot tell you how helpful it is to have a widget on the home screen for watching my husband‘s blood sugar. Also, is there a way for us followers to get the percentage time in range like the actual Dexcom app provides to the users? I have to look at his app to see if he’s been reducing over time, and it would just be easier to do it all from mine.
I don’t mind the new app except for one issue… The trend arrows are no longer showing when you go back in time so I can see a visible trend of either up down or steady… I have a trend arrow for my up to the second blood glucose level but if I wanted to check to see what my Ronderos were doing three hours ago from 1 to 130 trends don’t show with those blood glucose reading numbers… I would like to have those arrows returned if that’s possible please and thank you
A recent update (currently 1.2.0has removed the ability to see past glucose values if they exceed the upper range while using the slider on the graph. That is, by using the slider you used to be able to get value at a specific time. Now, it shows time/value only if the value is less than or equal to the top of the range, and anything greater just says (for example) “Above 220 at xx:xx.” It does show the current measurement if high, but you have lost the ability to get specific, historical levels.
My daughter is newly diagnosed so I have no experience with the prior apps. I love the ability to see and check in on her while I am away from her through the follow app I wish I could have a widget on the iPhone so see without keeping the app open at all times. In addition the app isn’t working on my Apple Watch. When I try to open it just spins but doesn’t open. It’s frustrating as I hear previous versions the capability for both worked fine.
My daughter has Type 1 diabetes and Autism. She is unable to manage her diabetes on her own. A continuous glucose monitor is quite literally a lifesaver. We’ve been using Dexcom for several years now, starting with the G6 and now using the G7. When we started, Dexcom had the best integration with mobile devices. It reads every 5 minutes and I can monitor it live. Unfortunately, the Dexcom Follow app falls well short of its potential. It almost feels like an afterthought. It sounds good but the quality and functionality is lacking. It’s probably fine for someone who just needs a second set of eyes. It’s not so good when the patient has to rely on a caregiver. A poor Follow app has a negative impact on my effectiveness as a caregiver. Due to the poor quality of the Dexcom Follow, we have to use 3rd party apps to monitor glucose levels. I would like to see: • Critical alerts. It currently supports Time Sensitive alerts. But those don’t offer much. I use Apple CarPlay. Apple does a lot to eliminate distractions while driving and if you use CarPlay, you know that most of your app alerts are silenced on your phone and don’t show on your CarPlay screen at all. I get zero audible or visible alerts when using CarPlay. Critical alerts can break thru this so that you always get alerts. • A nightstand mode. At night, I keep an iPad on a stand on a bedside table. I use a 3rd party app to display glucose levels. It’s nice to be able to just glance over at anytime and see the number and a graph. • Widgets. There was a widget, but it’s gone now. It should also include the ability to resize it or show different views, like other apps do. • A CarPlay widget Finally, a CGM is a game changer when it comes to diabetes management. However that CGM is only as good as the apps that support it. We are always on the lookout for a better CGM. It just makes sense to always seek better healthcare tools. It’s sad that the quality of the iOS apps are a key driver of my disappointment with Dexcom.
I love that the app allows me to monitor and track my wife’s BG. I like the notifications, except that there is no mechanism to “acknowledge” a notification. I continue to receive alerts for highs and lows until BG comes back into range. The old app would delay notifications for 2 hours if you closed and restarted it. That no longer works. Meaning I put my phone on silent after acknowledging and checking on my wife. Very inconvenient.
This “update” is a horrible joke. The text for the numbers is now almost unreadable because it is so small. They removed the widget so it no longer shows on my watch. I am not sure why they advertise a widget that doesn’t exist. I almost never get alerts now. I can’t track what the previous high reading was if it is above 250. I am not sure why app developers insist on changing the look of the app, removing all features that were good and calling it an update. This is a disaster of a downgrade and hurts trying to care for my loved one. Thanks for nothing Dexcom.
Hello, I really fond the new UI within this new app but one thing has been brought up to my concern. It’s that there are no widgets with this new Dexcom follow app. I really like the widgets because it helps with tracking my fiancés blood sugar. I believe you forgot to add this to the new app when you created it. Please add this functionality sooner rather than later because I have noticed that updates for this app is slower than usual.
Please make a widget for this app!! It would be nice to check it at a glance instead of going into the app.
Always locks on my iPhone and I have to uninstall and reinstall every couple of weeks
Notifications are constant. I click the notification for a high and have the settings set to silence for an hour. But it keeps going off every 5 minutes. Please fix this
This updated app is terrible, alarms don’t stop even after acknowledging them, and if you’re out of range it switches the units of measurements to one that we don’t use here.
The old one was much better. It now shows the wrong unit type in Canada when you go to landscape view. And when it goes low it says below the minimum value installed of the actual reading. Which is when you want the most accurate numbers. Dexcom is not treating this app like the medical life safety app it is. Fix the issues ASAP!!!
This app, like all the Dexcom apps, is poorly designed and just an overall mess. Why is there no way to logout?!? Why do I have to delete the entire app to do that? I’d be embarrassed to release something even half this bad.
Please make the BG number bigger. I often leave my app open at night to see my daughters reading but I can’t see such a small number. Also, I agree with the review about getting notified every 5 minutes even when set not to for a high. Previous app was better.
So, Apple Watch functionality disappeared, graphing behaviour is inconsistent - can’t scroll through past readings consistently, current BG levels don’t display. This version was not ready for release. The old Follow app was superior.
The app generally works, but when the child’s reading is below the “low” threshold (set to 4.2 mmol/l), it defaults to showing “Below 76”. This is off both because it defaults to US units despite my setting being mmol/l, and due to the need for an actual reading rather than simply the word “below”. If I lower the threshold I get the proper reading, so clearly it is being recorded. Just a strange design choice / bug.
If they are above their target range we no longer get a number, it just says above 182 no matter what she’s at. Which is weird for multiple reasons - odd that it wouldn’t show her actual number but also odd that the glitch seems to be defaulting to mg/dL instead of mmol/L even though everything else in the app is showing mmol/L
Why was the old follow app replaced. This new one is worse than the old one. The screen use is terrible. What advantages does the new app have over the old app. In addition. Being in Canada the app doesn’t proved a correct value when above the upper range. It gives it in mg/dL.
Very disappointed as the app is very inconsistent with not only notifying me when my partner’s blood glucose is low, sometimes when it does decide to notify, the sound notification doesn’t work. Absolute disappointment because my partner relies on me as a secondary response overnight to wake him if he goes low. Tonight was a perfect example where he was able to wake himself up but I missed all the alerts because there was no sound. I’m at my wits end with this app.
First, the numbers higher than the “high” setting you set are shown in mg/dl when every other number is mmol/l which is the preferred reading. Second, there’s no notification that pops up to clear a high or low from my notifications so I get notified every 5 minutes until the bg resolves. I have no “do not disturb” settings on and the settings to repeat every 2 hours if nothing changes, yet I still get notified every 5 minutes.
Followers need widgets & watch complications. Advertisement said that it works with the watch but there’s no complication. Going back to the old Follow app
This new interface is terrible. Font sizes don’t inherit from phone settings. Sometimes alerts snooze but sometimes they don’t. Press on the display to get the detail line works most of the time but not always. If I could load the old app, I’d go back to it.
I wish they provided an option to select mg/dl for useres from various countries.
The app isn’t giving alerts anymore since the update of the app. Very frustrating when I’m not being alerted for lows for my daughter.
The previous follow version is much better. The size of the reading is much smaller and for older eyes this is a big disadvantage. The layout with the reading and how many minutes in the middle on the previous version is much better. Don't see any advantages to this one
The app never works because of server issues. Do better instead sending me countless notifications to switch apps. Better yet, stop switching apps!
As a follower (especially a parent/spouse of a T1D), we are begging for widgets and watch complications. If it can be done for the user, please work on an update for us followers. This enhanced version isn’t really enhanced if we don’t have these options! :)
Dexcom says you can quickly glance at your watch to view the readings. But you can’t, it’s the same as the old Dexcom Follow app where you have to open a shortcut to the app to view the readings.
Sharer can not log in to actually share. Prev version worked fine.
I got the app as my wife is type 1. For the large majority of the time she handles her levels totally fine all on her own and has for years, however there is the odd time when she will sleep or nap through an alert on her own device, so it made sense for me to get the follow app. I have two main “complaints” as a follower. 1. It does not seem that there is a way to set the app notifications as critical alerts. If I am missing this somewhere I would love to know. Ideally for our use, I would want to be able to set critical alerts so that they only came through for notifications on urgent lows, but it would make sense if there was a way to set which notifications/ glucose level each individual user wanted to have bypass the silent or do not disturb settings on their phone. 2. This one is not functionally major, but why did I need to give my phone number, my email, my date of birth, etc… in order to follow my wife’s account. She already had an account, seemed unnecessary and like a bit of an invasion of privacy for something that really shouldn’t need that information in order to function.
App works great , really missing the larger bold glucose number on the screen. Would recommend the option to make graph smaller and number bigger.
How does this app ever make it to consumers, I have never gotten any alarms for lows for daughter, not even highs either. I have had my phone looked at by professionals , by Apple themselves and IT even and they cannot figure out why. They seem to concur that only a bug exists between the app and my phone specifically and everything was tried even switching phones three times! My daughter has alarms on her phone and they work but not mine.
This app is horrible! Always losing signal and the low alerts are poor. The freestyle libre app is much superior. Fix the app and adjust low alarms especially when placed on do not disturb. I want to receive loud low alarm that will actually wake me up. The low alarm is faint and doesn’t do enough.
