Great in theoryMostly works great with one major flaw. The contactless payment rarely works when needed. There is usually some update that needs to happen (my apps are set to update automatically but for some reason this one never does) or some other troubleshooting you can do to get it to work eventually but it’s of little help when you’re trying to use it with a customer. You don’t want to sit and troubleshoot in front of them. Instead, the vast majority of my orders have to be done manually. Stuck On Select Location During LoginWorked great all of last year, but the newest update has made it unusable. Tap & Chip readerI’m in #3 in one year. When the first one wouldn’t work anymore they replaced it. But it was at Xmas time and I had no back up. Had to wait 10 days to receive a new one. Old users credentials are permanently storedWe are having a user caching issue. The first user to ever log into this app seems to be stuck. We went as far as formatting the entire iPad and again on a fresh new install (no log in credentials were) asked. After installing the app it went strait to the pin screen where only the pin for the first user works. It’s like something with the iCloud user name possibly is stuck caching those credentials. Logging out and in with another user only works for a minute or two where they are auto logged out (it requires your pin only) and again. Only the initial first user who logged in pin will work. Even though they were logged out. Or in our case on a clean fresh install haven never logged in and have absolutely no passwords or credentials saved anywhere. So I’m totally confused how you can even log in without needing credentials is pretty scary and needs to be patched immediately!

No support and will hold fundsI really enjoyed Shopify at first! My employee and I spent DAYS integrating our inventory and creating labels. Sales were going great, as well… But then BAM! Out of nowhere, there was a “pause” on my payouts. They didn’t even send me an email requesting any information or an explanation of why until I reached out to customer support via chat and then I finally found a phone number to contact them. I submitted all necessary documents within 24 hours of receiving said email. Then on the following Tuesday, I received an email stating that my store had been “terminated” and now I have to wait “120 days” for payouts, even though I have made it very clear verbally, via email, and via “appeal” since that was my only option that I have zero business to continue to do business with a company that will hold funds with no warning and then terminate my store and all of my hard work. MehThe app design is nice, super buggy. Have to constantly close app cause it hangs on trying to search items, at checkout trying to choose form of payment type, or when searching customer name. Huge potential but seems to drop the ball. **update** I did what the developer suggested, still hangs. Now when starting the app it will freeze then I have to force close app. Frustrating cause we have online store front that allows the pos to communicate with our online store . Just would be nice to have the app not freeze every 10-20 min while performing a normal function.

Terrible Card Reader /PolicyWe are on #5, that’s right, FIFTH card reader. Shopify itself is a great tool, but their card readers are awful. Doesn’t matter which model (we’ve bought multiple) they are constantly disconnecting or worse giving the “red light of doom” error. We’ve checked our wifi, updated our systems, and are ULTRA careful about not moving our reader just in case. Haven’t had reader issues with other companies thus far. Be prepared to drop $$$$ for card readers, and if they simply stop working- don’t expect Shopify to help or offer a reimbursement. As a previous user stated, we have to constantly manual enter credit cards. We lose out on sales, especially if folks don’t carry their physical cards on them and expect to pay via tap. For Shopify Payments Payouts OnlyI want to be clear that I find the Shopify app itself valuable and would rate it 4 or 5 stars for its features and usability. However, Shopify Payments payout processing has been a constant headache. Despite having my payout schedule set to next business day, I regularly wait 5 to 6 business days to receive my money, especially around holidays.
When reaching out to Shopify they keep blaming my bank for the delays, but every time I get the payout notification from Shopify, the funds hit my account the very next day. This clearly shows the bank is not the issue. The real problem is Shopify’s slow and inconsistent payout processing and the frustrating runaround I get from support.
If you rely on timely payouts to run your business, be warned, Shopify Payments’ payout system can cause serious cash flow headaches and is far from reliable.
They also make it even more cost prohibitive to switch to a third-party payment processor by charging an extra processing fee on top of the third-party processor’s fees. This limits your options and forces you to deal with Shopify Payments’ slow and unreliable payout system, which is frustrating for any business owner..ShopifyPosVersion: 10.5.0

The app could be great, but having it fail while making a sale is a huge issueMultiple times now I’ve had to completely uninstall and reinstall the app while trying to make a sale at a show. This is an insane experience, and makes it really hard to have confidence. What happens is the app locks up when showing variants, and never loads them. I’ve thrown away the app, even logged out and back in, it only corrects after throwing the app away.

Customer Service/app formatThey’re not very good at communicating when issues come up. Its hard to get in touch through their customer service. In all honesty, I can handle the terrible customer service but whats worse is the app format.
They’ve recently added some features that does help make it easier to check out. However, their most recent update drives me up the wall. When I add monies to my cash drawer, its policy to notate which bills/coins need to be added, but their most recent update makes this impossible. The window that pops up for me to type in the amount is too big. I tried scrolling down to access the notes window but no matter what I do I cannot access it. Issues never solvedGiving a 1 star due to the high costs and the problems that we have facing for almost an year and no resolutions. My biggest concern is regarding the inventory updates. Pay for membership, lacks benefitsThe app itself has decent features but what’s frustrating is that I pay for Shopify monthly and automatic discounts work on my website but not on POS. I have to manually create secondary POS discounts and apply them myself, because BOGO style discounts are not automatically applied.
I’m a new vendor selling at trade-show events, I can’t afford $80 per month just to have discounts automatically apply—as they should. But Shopify locks this behind the POS Pro membership, which is ADDITIONAL to the Shopify membership you already pay for.

Limited Grid FormattingCame to write a review after months of irritation due to the app’s worst unnecessary update— you’re unable to customize your ‘smart grid’ layout by color. Sounds minor, but when you have multiple pages of no-sku item tiles that frequently change (i.e. seasonal items), there is nothing but a screen of grey tiles with zero way of differentiating or categorizing other than page-by-page themes. Requires restarting the phone every few minutesUsed the app for the first time in a trade show and was excited when the first tap to pay went through. Then every transaction after had it grayed out. User management removedUser management removed from free version to compel users to upgrade. Crappy move on the part of Shopify to make us pay for an app that is lousy at what it does already. For example - very difficult to track orders from web in bricks and motor location. Poor card connectionI had to take an additional 5-10 minutes just to checkout customer due to the card not connecting. I had to manually put card information in and they will charge a higher fee for the app not working. I have all bars plus 5g and it stated I didn’t have internet connection but I did! The app just didn’t accept the card as the “tap” option! Very poor customer experience and service for such an expensively paid app/service!

Hates the card readerWorks fine as long as you don’t use tap and chip. You’ll spend hours to pair this thing up for it to unlink when you have a sale. So cash is king…lol.
Getting a support rep is easy if you like an AI chat repeating the same response over and over until you get a person. Then, a rehash of what you’ve already tried to do it again.
Adding in the additional frustration of texting the whole back and forth in communication, when a phone call would’ve been quicker and easier for the business side.
But, I get it. They already sold us the thing, what a better way to get us to buy another device instead of fixing the problems.
Also, there are random updates that will cause the whole to go down at predictable intervals, like Black Friday, tax season or back to school. Then nothing will connect again.

Messing up when I need to move quickly>:/I’ve been using the app for over a month now and everything has been smooth until the last week or 2. When I type in the 1st word of a product to bring it up quickly, product is nowhere to be found and I have to manually go and search for it when I’ve got customers waiting to swipe their card. Give us back the tiles!The new “Smart Grid” is anything but, forcing a product search to show up in an alternate pop up search menu instead of just narrowing down options on the home screen is the opposite of streamlined, and forcing the creation of a button to apply rewards instead of connecting it directly to customer accounts adds complications that just aren’t necessary.

Update IssueThis new update has made the checkout process so much longer than it needs to be. You now have to click through 2 extra screens involving printing a receipt when in previous versions you could do it all in one. I don’t see how this update makes anything easier. Update is worseSince the recent update, when you email a customer a receipt, it no longer saves the email under their customer information. Slow checkout processThe app is great, but it’s still not at the right level of checkout efficiency that I require.
Whenever I scan a barcode with a handheld scanner, it requires additional steps, such as selecting the color and size. The barcode is already assigned to a unique product so why bother with all these extra steps.

Nope.I’m with Shopify for 4 years and I regret giving them so much money. I should have listen to people and go with Square. The terminal for the payment used to lag all the time at the begening. Now they changed it and it’s going fine (almost) until…
They started asking for papers, identity proof, and private informations, which I found odd and out of nowhere. And they asked that through a notification, not even an email, which I didn’t saw. I gave them the informations tho, but now they block from time to time my payment terminal, so clients can’t pay. I look like a fool in front of client and made my employees stressed out, as well as myself.
So much bad stuff and bad communication, that end up looking bad as merchants.

Sick of no phone number to callHow can such a large POS system not have a phone number to reach. The app has issues frequently and there’s nobody to call when you need assistance. Abysmal serviceWhen I joined shopify, I somehow managed to sign up twice under the same email with their confusing system. I was charged for 18 months for an account I NEVER signed into or used. POS progressively getting worse and worse.The awful POS issues continues. Can’t ring people through because the card reader won’t connect or just freezes. This has been happening every two weeks for the past two months. Too unreliable! To be able to complete a simple product exchange on the till you would need to pay for the upgraded premium version. Also one of the biggest issues is their payout from purchases are really slow to be deposited. Sometimes your order from Thursday morning won’t be paid out till following Wed. Weak compared to SquareAfter a year with it I can say that this POS is poor. The reader’s battery life is short, it constantly fails to connect, the security sync is slow, it fails to read cards at times. I have been back and forth with support a dozen times and across many updates. It’s just lousy hardware and the software is outside of Shopify’s core competency.

New POS is inconvenient to navigate and an eye sore.As a small business Shopify customer for almost 6 years we have always enjoyed the ease and design of the services offered. After being forced to upgrade to the new POS system because our new products would no longer sync we are frustrated and displeased with the product. Having to scroll through large lists of inventory is stressful and inconvenient while ringing through orders. Not being able to use thumbnail photos for our collections slows down navigation. The blown up font throughout is an eye sore and is visually overwhelming. Having to switch to a new page to add a discount in the cart or adding a custom sale is poorly thought out.
Disappointed that they’ve now forced small businesses to upgrade another $89usd to use some of the same tools we had before such as saving carts.
The old POS design was sleek, easy to use and had a FAR superior design and aesthetic. It is so unenjoyable to use the new version we are already searching out other options to switch to, as the Shopify support team said there was no way we could switch back and no updates coming in the near future.
Would NOT recommend setting up your POS system with Shopify unless there is a design update or better customization. Option to use old version should be made available.
