Connecting the powerswitch to the app was seamless and easy. With carplay now being supported, it was an easy decision choosing garmin over the other accessory switch companies. Only improvement I would like to see is the button sizing on CarPlay. The small circular buttons in the app on the CarPlay are sometimes hard to precisely press especially on the fly. It’d be much easier to use without looking while driving if the buttons were the same size as they are on the phone
Original review at the bottom. CarPlay support has been added and it works great! I now feel much more comfortable using my Powerswitch while driving and needing to turn lights off for that random stranger exploring the wilderness. At this point I have zero complaints about the Garmin PowerSwitch and corresponding app. They both work marvelously and I would recommend them both to anyone I come across that’s thinking about picking one up. Thank you Garmin! Original review: App works great as it’s currently designed; however, it badly needs CarPlay support. It’s unsafe as a driver to need to unlock my phone, navigate to the app, and then switch the lights off. Even while driving on back roads can risk running off the road while trying to turn off lights for the one car you run into in the past hour. I wouldn’t like to think of what reason they’ve yet to add such a feature. Here is to hoping an update is in the pipeline!
The device itself works great but the Carplay app is in serious need of a UI overhaul. Make it look more like the iOS version and give the ability to customize the layout. It would be nice if you didn’t have to switch interfaces in order to access custom buttons, allow the ability to have custom buttons on the main screen.
This app is great and reliable. We need more features like a way to customize on a computer. Save settings and upload and share. Also, please make a separate Bluetooth controller that can be mounted inside the vehicle. This helps with the tactile need to hit buttons without a phone. This is very doable and would be a great seller.
Can you redesign the buttons to resize when using the iPad is in landscape mode and split screen. I like to have the PowerSwitch app and Gaia gps up and running in split screen but the garmin buttons are huge and not functional. Other than that, great products as always.

Just installed mine and I love it. Easy to setup. Love integration with CarPlay. However, I do wish that you could long press on the icons and rearrange the inputs in the app instead of having to wire them a specific order to show correct order I want them in the app.
Really appreciate developers listening and adding CarPlay support! Now I can switch my fog, driving and light bar from CarPlay touchscreen and not have to worry about setting up another device before every drive!
The Garmin PowerSwitch is fantastic both in hardware and software! Use in both my Can-Am SXS and my overlanding truck. Only thing missing is apple CarPlay support! Garmin please enable this functionality, will take this from a 4 Star to a 5 Star Solution
This is super useful, but with the last update at around a year ago it’s showing some age.
Please add Apple CarPlay support… why would this not be implemented yet?! Otherwise the product is great and the app functions but CarPlay is a must feature Garmin!
Does what it is supposed to. Clean. App is simple too . Add a button keypad and you will get 6 stars !!!!
Make the carplay look like the iOS app.
Great app - well designed.
Très bon produit et facile a câbler et à utiliser génial je recommandes 😀
My favourite power switch of all time. Just would like to see more customizable icons for the switches. Love the Bluetooth function and maybe one day we can incorporate wifi on these.
Garmin PowerSwitch™ Negative Reviews and Ratings
First of all, my experience with the power switch itself has been generally positive. I blew through multiple switch pro units that failed on me and have not experienced that with either of my two Garmin units that I am currently running. However, their control mechanism (this app) is a major detractor from the experience. When you're dealing with something as powerful as a smartphone, you would expect the ability to operate smoothly and with some powerful functionality would be within the realm of possibility. Some things I miss that needs a solution: •The ability to turn on strobe functionality by double tapping a switch. •The ability to control dimming outside of the setup menu (ex hold the switch down to cycle through power settings). Options are endless here though when you can control the app interface with better ui design. •Single Pole Dual Throw support. Many Offroad lights with multiple power inputs (like Baja designs lp series) require that you do not power both inputs simultaneously. Without this support Garmin risks damaging electronics. All other high end PDMs support this. •Better strobe function. You can only program on time and off time. This is not strobe. This is flashing. Another issue I have is with the CarPlay "support". I run into problems all the time where I enable a more complex switch and it turns on just fine, but the CarPlay freezes up and requires that I open the app to turn it off. This is more of a bug though. I wish I saw changes more frequently than months and months between updates. To me this signifies that Garmin is not treating this as a real product.
Phone app works fine although I wish buttons could be reordered and custom buttons could be added to the main screen. Should be able to download your own icons for the buttons. limited functionality in the CarPlay app. Custom functions should appear on the button screen. Buttons should have the same colors and icons as the phone app. Custom buttons using moment function work fine in the app but don’t work in CarPlay. I think Garmin might include more of this functionality into the Tread unit and they are trying to limit app functionality to sell those.
In all fairness, the app and the hardware works fine. But, it’s behind times and lacks many of the new features other companies have in their products. Many people have made many requests to have Siri or shortcut support, so that we can utilize voice commands. But it’s been two years and there has been no updates to this absence then. I am dropping Garmin PowerSwitch and switching to Novlight. Their hardware and software supports voice commands. And to make it even sweeter it’s half the price of garments PowerSwitch. If you’re gonna spend $400 plus on an accessory controller it should have voice command. Or at least some sort of automation.
Works as advertised but needs more features. Needs ability to use with Siri through Carplay so you can just ask Siri to turn on or off each switch at a minimum. Would be really nice if there was a way to make the switches turn off automatically after certain times, or amount of time since on. Would also be nice if the CarPlay screen icons were more colorful. They’re only grey. I’m sure there are all sorts of other cool options that could be in the app, but it seems they’ve chosen to just make it limited.
The CarPlay support for this has left it looking like a poorly developed app from a small developer and not a well known brand. I went with this product because it was from a trusted brand. There has been no effort in the last 2 years to bring this app current from a user interface perspective. App is functional.
Garmin please please please make the buttons bigger in the CarPlay function. When you get a text message you can’t operate the bottom row until the notification disappears. Why are the buttons so small to begin with?
This app hasn’t been updated in 2 years at this point. Garmin, show us a little love over here and give this app a fresh coat of paint and a quick check under the hood to make sure you are following best practices!
Could be awesome, love how they integrated w my trucks infotainment center. What I cannot understand how they failed to program the ability for all circuits to turn off when ignition is off.
Generally, a good product, but sometimes the switch will not turn a channel off until tried repeatedly. Garmin has no more customer service and it’s all Chinese now. So this is what you get at a high price.
