I recently had issues with the app being able to connect to my local network to set up my recast. This has been updated and corrected in the most recent push of the app and everything is working exactly as it was before. I have updated my review to five stars to reflect this and I’m happy to be up and running with my device again! Thank you to the developers for correcting this!
New update v1.1.1 connects to my network and seems to work fine
It works very well. I can watch live tv and watch my recordings. The recast is great

Amazon Fire TV Recast Negative Reviews and Ratings
Same as others. After performing the channel scan, I am unable to view any live tv channels.
I’m forced to download this app to set up my recast now that I’ve moved and the app is asking for local network access however it is not showing up as an app that’s been asking properly for a local network access. There’s no way for me to give it local network access unless the app requested, but the app is not requesting it properly, so iOS doesn’t understand the request. Even if I go into Local network settings, the app does not show up in any of the apps. Nor does local access show up in the app settings either.
I’ve had this system for a couple of years it just gets worse every month. Constantly having to reboot it to be able to delete recordings. System tv guide that you need to set recordings recently began having issues not listing all channels. Now it won’t record at all. Tried factory reset didn’t do any good. Now it won’t save scanned channels. Who is programming this thing? High school shop class?
I had no problem with this for years until lately. It’s just been one problem after another. They appear to be doing update willy-nilly completely messing stuff up so I can’t record or playback and the support is like a joke. They don’t have any clue what is going on half the timeand this latest app is just completely useless and does not work.
The app was working well on my iPad and iPhone until I had a duplicate app on my iPad for the recast blaster app. I deleted the app and re-downloaded it. From there, I have never been able to get back into the app. I keep getting local network permissionsymbol saying I must allow local network access so I go to it in settings and I don't even have the option to do so. So what are they talking about?
I had it for years and it never worked on my tablet or my phone I bought it for remote viewing first it didn’t work out of the house now it don’t work in the house , they discontinued the recast and do not support this product anymore. It was buggy when it worked. Don’t buy a product that don’t update and support it.
Yep, it got automatically updated and lost my channels. I ended up having to do a factory reset, and set up my recast again. It went okay until the channel scan. I did get it to scan, it found 100 channels and then told me there were no channels and to do a channel scan. I did this a few more times before realizing the app is bad.
As others have said, the app is totally broken with this latest update. It skips right past the settings and goes right to this error message. Secondly, in iOS settings, there is no local network access settings for the app, only Bluetooth and cellular. The app is now garbage and totally unusable.
My first experience is they locked me out of my control of my recast and tells me to go to an app (this app) instead which doesn’t allow you to allow your Wi-Fi access to the app. There’s just no access it just brings you on a loop… Stupid give me access to my Fire TV access with recast. Stupid.
On version 1.1.0 of the app — in app screen shows request for local network permissions, but it doesn’t look like the app has requested this in the background, so there’s no local network option to even toggle in the iOS system settings — app doesn’t function as a result
The prior app had network access. When it updated to this version, network access is not present and there does not seem to be a way to make it ask for the network access, making my unit useless.
The old Fire TV app was buggy, but at least it showed my Recast and the list of shows so I could watch on my tablet and delete from there, too. This app only seems to be for initial setup. Please bring back the original app. This one doesn’t do anything.
The app does not ask for local network. Others have reported same issue. When you create a fix? This problem didn’t exist in earlier version. It appears to have been introduced in the latest version.
This is now the required app for recast. However, the required local network access button that should be in the app is not present so you functionally cannot use the app. Worst migration ever. This needs to be fixed immediately.
I can’t get this app to work. It says it needs access to the local network, but there’s no setting to actually turn on. I’m locked out of my recast TV now! When you try to go to the developer website, it takes you to an empty page.
Blaster device has solid orange light even though it shows up in this app and on my FireTV and connected to my router. But a “connection issue” won’t let me enable the Blaster in my FireTV equipment settings to control via Echo. Basically the Blaster that was working great is garbage now.
It will not go passed asking for local network access but does not allow you to access it , works just fine with the firetv remote but not with this firetv recast/ blaster
Puts me in an endless Loop on my iPad with latest iPad OS since it won’t access for Local Network Access. I could program better than this back in the 1970’s when I was in 4th Grade.
Please fix this app, the local access for network access doesn’t show up only Bluetooth shows! Frustrating
I’m never able to connect to the recast to watch on my mobile device. It always shows as offline/disconnected even though it’s hardwired.
Sad that the updated FireTV Recast app still doesn’t work in macOS. I was excited to see it request Bluetooth access on first opening but since all I see is a WiFi symbol when it opens.
App is useless at the moment, does not have the ability to request local area access
This would be great to be able to watch stuff on my blaster on my MacBook, but it doesn’t request local network access to be able to work on Sequoia
Channel scanning finds 100+ stations, but crashes app after finishing scanning. No channels are saved so you repeat channel scanning over and over again. Please fix.
I scan 80 channels when I do the channel scan but then the channels don’t load after that. I can’t watch live tv, I can only watch my recordings.
The app does not request local network access, therefore it is stuck in a loop and there is no way to grant access. So recast is a brick until the app is fixed.
After the update I have had to reboot the recast regularly as is loses network connection and will not reconnect through the app.
I just upgraded to the new version and can watch TV nor recordings on my 2021 iPad Pro. A poorly performing product is now even worse.
Why the Change in apps?? At least the other app worked
Will not connect to network to allow streaming g. The app is almost as useless as the previous one
The recast used to work great. Now since they discontinued it, it’s very buggy and needs to be rebooted daily. Almost unusable at this point.
Shows same channels multiple times and doesn’t show all channels available.
Drops connections. Won’t connect. Full of bugs. Trash. Worse than the previous app, which was bad.
There is no option to allow local network access so I cannot set up the app.
Unable to see channels on app, it scans and locates them, but then says there are none available. Uninstalled and reinstalled, no help.
Will not allow this setting, unable to configure my recast.
This is garbage. Ever since this new app was launched, every time I try to play any channel, it never plays it
App stopped working when I updated my Mac to Sequoia. Now it just displays a blank screen with a giant WiFi icon on it.
With the latest update live tv no longer works on my iPad
Doesn’t work. It was better before they “fixed” it.
The product need massive updates to keep up. Please update so it’s usable on iPhone and IPad
My fireTV app stopped working and forced me to download this to control my tv. This app is broken and doesn’t work.
Didn’t work for me. Looks like it’s not a big loss - it has pretty limit purpose.
No means to allow local network access.
I have pretty much given up on this the apps never work for me so.🤷🏻♂️
On macOS Tahoe, the video stream on this app is not centered and is shifted to the right so much that you can’t see it.
No network access to toggle permission
I downloaded the “free”app and was charged $80.49
